SCHOOL MEALS FOR NEXT YEAR & CURRENT MEAL KITS
Did you know that school lunches and breakfasts will be available for FREE next school year?
The USDA established a waiver to support access to nutritious meals when students return to their school buildings in the fall.  This program is available to students who choose the "whole meal"   students wishing to purchase only milk or a la carte items will still be able to do so.

NOTE: Families who may qualify for free or reduced-priced meals should continue to complete a new application at the beginning of the school year to ensure they have access to other district and federal benefits (like potentially additional Pandemic EBT).

Questions can be directed to NutritionServices@bisd303.org.
Meanwhile, students are encouraged to participate in the free weekly Meal Kits provided by BISD. The final Meal Kit pick-up of the year is on Friday, June 11.
Click here to order your Meal Kits.

A special THANKS to the Food Service Team who has worked hard all year to provide nutritious and delicious meals for students.

It's time! Our Annual Back-to-school Check-in process (ABC) is now open and is available by logging in to your Family Access account. Please take the time to complete this process ASAP. It should take about 15 minutes (or less!) to complete the process for each child in your household.
The ABC 21-22 process must be completed for all students in the district whether they are brand new to the district or returning.
BISD is planning on bringing students back for full-time learning in September.

DISTRICT IMPROVEMENT PLAN UPDATE:
K-5 MATH CURRICULUM ADOPTION

The District Improvement Plan (DIP) states that BISD:

Will ensure all students have access to a challenging, relevant and inclusive curriculum that helps them understand their world and build the knowledge and skills they need to shape their futures.
In alignment with the DIP, the School Board recently approved Illustrative Math as the new math curriculum for grades K-5, replacing My Math. The new curriculum will roll out to classrooms next school year. K-5 staff members will receive training on Illustrative Mathematics this August and throughout the school year.
Additionally, the district and elementary schools are planning outreach events to help guardians become familiar with the curriculum so they can support their children with learning their math content.

Reese Ande and Amii Pratt co-facilitated the K-5 Math Adoption Committee and are excited about this new curriculum, "We feel proud of the materials that are going to be put in front of our students. As a committee, we began our work by outlining our vision for K-5 Math students and we really believe that Illustrative Mathematics is the curriculum that will help us achieve this vision. The authors of Illustrative Mathematics wrote this program with three interconnected principles — learning, teaching and equity — which align really nicely with our District Improvement Plan.”

FLEXIBLE BOUNDARIES FOR OUR K-4 SCHOOLS

In order to maintain similar-sized classes in our elementary schools, BISD utilizes flexible boundaries for Blakely, Ordway and Wilkes.

This means that periodically we must transfer students between schools in an effort to balance out class sizes. BISD Board Policy 3130 outlines the details.

As BISD plans for the 2021-22 school year, we are looking at enrollment levels across the three elementary schools. At this time we do not expect a large number of moves to occur, but we monitor the situation closely in order to provide information to families in a timely manner. If moving students is necessary, families of students who may be impacted by a potential change of school assignment will be notified by July 1. If students are transferred to different schools, principals will work with the impacted families to help ease the students’ transitions.
