NOTE FROM THE COUNSELOR
Happy (Almost) November!

I hope everyone was able to benefit from conferencing with their student’s teacher last week. As a school counselor I sit in on some of these meetings and hear updates of student progress, including areas in need of support. Based on some of the conversations, I wanted to push out a couple of resources that might benefit you/your student.

Free Peer Tutoring - Bainbridge Youth Services offers peer tutoring, for all grade levels, after school Monday through Thursday.

ADD/ADHD - ADDitude - Inside the ADHD Mind - This site has a wealth of information for people with ADHD, parents with ADHD children, and professionals. Symptom checkers, free webinars, and articles galore can be accessed about ADD/ADHD and other psychological comorbidities.

Lastly, I am working on facilitating a Changing Families small group at a couple of different grade levels. If your family is going through a change due to separation or divorce, and you would like support for your student, please feel free to reach out to me anytime via email or phone.

Warm Fall Regards,

PICTURE RETAKES
Want a photo redo? Wilkes Picture Re-take Day is November 3rd.
School photos are available for preview on the Olympic Photo Group website gallery. If you did not pre-order pictures, order them now! Pre-ordered photos are in the mail.
To view your child's photo please us their student ID as the password. Your student's ID number can be found on Skyward Family Access under the tab STUDENT INFO and it is labeled as Other ID - but do not use the 0 in the password.
If you want RETAKES: If you received photos, send back the photo package with your student and remind them to have picture retaken.
HEARING & VISION SCREENINGS
Hearing and Vision Screening is almost here.
The Washington State mandated vision and hearing screening will be taking place on Friday, November 4, 2022, for Wilkes students in grades K, 1, 2, & 3. 4th graders are not routinely screened, but we can include them by parent request.
Parents/guardians will be notified if the health screening results indicate a health care provider follow-up is recommended. If you want your 4th grade student included OR if you want to opt out of the screening for your K-3rd grade student, please contact the health room at 206-780-3022 or email pzosa@bisd303.org.
HIGHLY CAPABLE NOMINATIONS
Highly Capable (HC) nominations are open for all kindergarteners and students who are new to BISD.
Bainbridge Island School District offers services to students who have been identified as highly capable. Highly capable students are those who perform or show potential for performing at significantly advanced academic levels. Services are provided for students in grades K - 12.

If your student is a kindergartner or new to our district this fall, and you are interested in having them evaluated for our Highly Capable program, please visit our Highly Capable Webpage for more information. The nomination window is open from October 21-November 4.

The HC nomination process for all other returning students (Grades 1-11) will occur in the Spring of this school year.
