Student Spotlight: Malik Turner
Malik is a communications media major and is on track to graduate in 2024. He is an ambassador of UBORA Men of IUP, a student organization that helps Black and Brown men navigate their college experience through programming, networking, and community service. He helps coordinate UBORA’s diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, including the April 15 Excellence in Progress Conference for Black and Brown men, and collaborations with other student organizations and campus offices. Malik assists in the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs Program and is an active participant in Center for Multicultural Student Leadership and Engagement (MCSLE) events. He is a member of the IUP Students Against Racism organization and the IUP football team. We thank you, Malik!
Staff Spotlight: Malaika Turner
Malaika has worked in the Division of Student Affairs for 25 years (this June) and currently serves as the assistant vice president. In this role, she provides supervision and leadership to the Office of Student Wellness and Engagement, the Military and Veterans Resource Center, the division senior systems analyst, and division communications. She codirects the Frederick Douglass Institute and works closely with the UBORA Men of IUP student organization. Malaika oversees operation of the Food Pantry and Help Center and provides leadership to the Crimson Scholars Circle steering group. She has given presentations at various workshops on topics such as leadership and influence, purpose, communication, and more. Her primary focus is to motivate students to achieve and thrive. Malaika champions the success and prosperity of women in the workplace. She is the host of The Pivot, a podcast for Black and Brown women to share their pivot experience, and she is the founder of the SpeakHer, LLC, through which she shares motivational videos titled Good Morning, Beautiful. She enjoys collaborating with her son, Malik, for both campus and personal events. We thank you, Malaika!
