It's Tax Season
Stay vigilant against phishing
attacks and tax scams

Phishing attacks never take a holiday, but if there's a "Super Bowl" for scammers, it might just be tax season. With W-2's arriving in mailboxes now, here are a few reminders to help protect yourself from would-be scams.
The IRS offers helpful tips in their Taxpayer Guide to Identity Theft, and check out IRT's resources about how to identify and report a phishing attempt.

As a reminder, the IRS never:
  • Initiates contact with taxpayers by email, text or social media to request personal or financial information
  • Calls taxpayers with threats of lawsuits or arrests
  • Calls, emails or texts to request taxpayers’ Identity Protection PINs

Something suspicious?

Report suspicious online or emailed phishing scams to phishing@irs.gov, or to abuse@csus.edu

We hope this timely reminder helps empower you to stay safe this tax season - and every day!
