To our new parents and families,

We are so excited to welcome you and your student to Vanderbilt University. We are a close-knit community, and our families are as much Vanderbilt for Life as our students and alumni.

The Commodore Connection is a monthly newsletter for current Vanderbilt parents and families. We’ll keep you up to date on important announcements, campus happenings and upcoming virtual events. We also recommend joining our Facebook group where you can connect with other parents and families.

We look forward to connecting with you as members of our Vanderbilt community as you participate in your student’s journey of discovery here. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions that may arise. We are here to help!

Welcome message from G.L. Black

Congratulations! We are so happy your student is joining our community of immersive learning and collaborative discovery.

To help address the expansive opportunities and inevitable stressors of your student’s first year with us, the Office of the Dean of Students seeks to promote a culture of resilience, self-care and flourishing that enables students to achieve their academic and interpersonal goals.

We hope your student will quickly become familiar with Vanderbilt’s Student Care Network—our holistic network of student health and wellness services and community resources bolstered by four primary offices, including the Office of Student Care Coordination, the University Counseling Center, the Student Health Center and the Center for Student Wellbeing.

Vanderbilt’s health and wellness infrastructure is intended to provide the care, guidance and support for your student to grow and thrive at the university and beyond.

Again, we could not be more thrilled to welcome your student to campus in August.

G.L. Black
Associate Provost and Dean of Students

Join our new Facebook group for parents and families

On July 20, the university launched the new Vanderbilt Parents & Families Group (Official) for all current Vanderbilt families. The new group replaces the individual class Facebook groups. The group will be supported by fellow Vanderbilt family members, with guidance from Vanderbilt’s Parents and Family Programs team, who can answer questions or offer direction on where to find any information you need. The new group will also allow parents and families to connect with and learn from others throughout their Vanderbilt journey. We are One Vanderbilt, and together we can build a stronger community.
