Weekly Update article
Dear St. Lukers,
Accountability. A word not often liked when paired with faith, and yet something John Wesley thought to be a foundation for building authentic community, and spiritual formation of holiness as a part of Methodism. After all, Wesley said there is no holiness not linked with social holiness. Our personal journey of discipleship is stretched, shaped, and tested in connection with a community of mutual accountability. Wesley offered 20+ personal accountability questions for self-reflection that were supposed to be shared with your band or class you met with weekly. Take a moment and read these questions (click here) to see the depth of accountability to personal growth required of Methodists.
John Wesley was following the level of accountability Jesus set up for the community of believers who wanted to be Kingdom people in the gospel of Matthew. Continuing to teach the disciples a new way of seeing community, in Matthew 18, Jesus gets pretty specific of what happens when conflict arises between people in the church. He called for accountable love to matter more than the fear of conflict within the body of Christ.

July Financial Update

Thank you for your continued financial support during the last several months that we have not been able to meet on campus. Your generosity has been truly overwhelming. Through July, our giving is up 5.5% for the year, and our expenses are up 4.9%. The expenses are up primarily due to our Child Development Center (CDC). With our CDC closed, we have an unfavorable $100k variance (combining the revenue loss and staff expenses incurred). They collect income that is included in our operating budget to offset their expenses, and since our campus has been closed, we have not received that income.
Our operating budget for the year is in an unfavorable position with our expenses being $67,795 more than our income. At the end of July 2019, we were in an unfavorable position of $75,917. We received 46% of our revenue in July through online giving.
We have also applied for and received a Payroll Protection Program grant from the Cares Act. This has allowed us to continue employing all staff at their regular number of hours. Some staff have transitioned to other duties since the campus has been closed. The amount we received was $562,686. With the addition of these funds, it has put us in a favorable financial position at the end of July of $494,891.
Thank you for your faithful stewardship and for sharing your gifts to support St. Luke's ministries and worship online. St. Luke's finance team is checking the mail at the church as well as the locked deposit box attached to Building C (by the office doors) frequently so you can feel confident that your offering is secure. You can continue to mail your contributions to the church (4851 S. Apopka-Vineland Rd. Orlando, FL 32819) or give online using our secure online giving platform QuickGive.
Click the button below to start giving online or call the finance office at 407.876.4991 ext. 227 to learn more about additional ways to give.
