In an effort to improve communication between ECS/UAS and faculty colleagues, the Executive Committee of the Senate (ECS) at its August 12, 2021 retreat recommended that each week, a general message will be sent out to all faculty. This message will highlight the immediate past ECS/UAS meeting and give a preview of the upcoming ECS/UAS meeting. In particular, the highlight will summarize the key agenda items and provide context on the key votes; the pros and cons will be summarized and the key arguments for each highlighted. Herein are the highlights of the UAS meeting of January 21, 2022 and a preview of the ECS meeting of January 28, 2022. Meetings of the ECS are restricted to members of the ECS, their alternates, and others whom the ECS may invite, pursuant to SG 1.01.7.2. Meetings of the UAS are open pursuant to SG 1.01.6.2.

- This is the last week for the Provost Search with the last two candidates visiting. You can get to the Final Candidates page by going here
- ECS meets next on January 28.
Provost’s Report
- Thank you to all those who have participated in the Provost search. Please continue to participate and complete the survey on the Final Candidates page of the Provost Search website.
- Enrollment is down 3.6% for headcount and 3.8% for credit hours as compared to Winter 2021. This is consistent with what we saw comparing Fall 2021 with Fall 2020. The contingency funding that was budgeted in anticipation of this decline in enrollment is expected to be sufficient to cover the shortfall.
- The Title IX investigation report by the external investigators has been shared with ECS and is also available on the Office of General Counsel website. ECS will have a discussion with the external investigators at the January 28 ECS meeting. The external investigators will attend UAS on February 11 (4:00-5:00 pm) to answer questions. The session with the external investigators on February 11 will be open to all in the GVSU community.
Student Senate President’s Report
- The State of the Student Body will be held on Thursday January 27 at 4 pm in Cook-DeWitt and will be livestreamed on the Student Senate Website.
New Business
- The RH2025 Co-leads provided an update and listened to comments from UAS. A motion to endorse RH2025 was supported by 87%.
