Gratitude from the Head of School Search Committee
Dear Bertschi Community,
As we finish the interview phase of our Head of School Search, we want to share our deep gratitude with everyone who actively participated in the process. Your engagement and insight have been helpful as we consider the experiences of each finalist candidate. Thank you.
In addition, we thought it might be helpful to remind us of the process we have undertaken as part of the search.
- Our Head of School Search followed best practices as outlined by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) including working with a well-regarded national search firm; forming a committee made up of representatives from the board, the faculty, and Bertschi Parent Council; and including our full community through listening sessions to develop the position paper.
- The recruiting process has been extensive. Once we had the role position paper complete, we spent five months reaching out to talented administrators across the U.S. and spent time looking at a broad list of candidates to get to the 15 candidates who had strong alignment with the qualifications and qualities outlined in our position paper. The Committee deliberated on these 15 candidates and narrowed the field to eight very strong semi-finalists. After interviews with the eight semi-finalists and extensive deliberation, the committee unanimously chose four outstanding finalists (one of whom subsequently withdrew from the process).
- We held in-depth, extensive interview days on campus–giving our full community of the Leadership Team, faculty, staff, parent community and Board of Trustees an opportunity to engage with each candidate and submit insights on their interaction to inform the Search Committee.
The process resulted in achieving what the Committee set out to do last spring–we brought forward three highly qualified Head of School candidates, all with extensive and unique experiences, all deeply aligned with our mission and values, and with a strong track record at their current schools. Each candidate would make an excellent head of school at Bertschi.
The Search Committee has collectively spent hundreds of hours on this process, preparing for this next phase: the final decision of our next Head of School. We are in a terrific position as a school, with stability on our side and exceptional candidates excited about and ready to lead our school’s next chapter. We will be in touch again once that decision is made.
