Dear friends,
We are excited to share the second installment of our new quarterly newsletter, From the Archives, featuring updates, activities and acquisitions at the UC Santa Barbara Library’s Special Research Collections (SRC).
Our second issue features the origin stories of three major collections with special emphasis on their founders: the Viticulture Collection, the American Religions Collection, and Richard Norton Collection. All donated materials and endowed collections in SRC have unique backgrounds, which we seek to preserve and share as diligently as we preserve the materials themselves. We invite you to explore the history behind these collections, and discover the founders’ visions for their futures.
The Library’s Performing Arts Collection—in particular its audio cylinder collection—was recently featured in a series of articles in the LA Times. We invite you to join us for an event where panelists will discuss the depth of our collection, the nature of audio cylinders as the earliest recorded sound, and the impact they have had on the development of LA’s prominent music culture.
At the Library, our mission is to preserve and protect our collective history so that we may gain insight into our past, present and future. We hope that you enjoy learning more about the UCSB Library’s Special Research Collections and its role in providing access to primary source materials that support excellent scholarship and research.
Many thanks for your continued interest in and support of the Library,
