Congratulations, 2019 Graduates!

Congratulations to the newest members of the CIA alumni community! Commencement took place May 17, 2019 at the Maltz Center for the Performing Arts. We were thrilled to have Dana Schutz, a 2000 painting major living and working in Brooklyn, present the commencement address before 103 seniors and their family and friends. Thomas William Jones '64 of Snohomish, Washington, was awarded the Joan Ashley Rothermel Memorial award from the America Watercolor Society's 152nd Annual Exhibition in New York this past April. His painting "Torn Maples" will be included in the AWS traveling exhibition throughout the midwest and east coast this year.
Tom Roese '71 had drawings installed in the permanent collection at University Hospitals Landerbrook.
David Verba '80 has a drawing being used as a cover illustration for a French book, Don't Be Afraid, written by Bernard Florentz. The book will be published by Editions Malpertuis.  
Miriam Omura '03 has a solo show at the Gadsden Museum of Art in Gadsden, Alabama, called Fabric of Society. The show runs through June 21. Read the press release here
Desiree Oza-Zajacz '03 will show two watercolor paintings at Ursuline College’s Florence O’Donnell Wasmer Gallery group exhibit, 2019 Summer Mash-Up! on view June 7-28. A public opening reception will be held Friday, June 7, from 5 to 8pm in the gallery. She will also be at Saks Fifth Avenue Beachwood creating live fashion illustrations on June 8 from 2 to 4pm.

Scott Goss '06 has work in Summa Health's art collection in their new patient tower. 
Kimberly Chapman '17 has work in Emergent at Heights Arts, along with fellow alumni Davon Brantley '18, Noelle Richard '17, Alyson Hollobaugh '17, Jeni Stovicek '16, Sydney Givens '18, and Alex Overbeck '17. The exhibition runs through June 9.

Jobs and Other Artist Opportunities

  • Karamu House will offer 12 artist-focused residencies in 2019. The application deadline is June 14 for a residency that will take place between July and September 2019. See more details
  • The Prairie Ronde Artist Residency is seeking visual artists, writers, and musicians who can creatively interact with the community of historic Vicksburg, Michigan. The deadline to apply is June 15. See more details.
