NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Wilkes Families,

Winter seems to have found its way to Bainbridge Island! It was fun to see a dusting of snow and watch it falling several mornings, but we were thankful to come to school each day.

This week at Wilkes we are excited to welcome the Toy Guy, Rick Hartman, in person for a daytime assembly and a Friday evening family event. Don’t forget to RSVP to this PTO-sponsored event. See below for more details. 

Next week is BISD spirit and kindness week. District-wide students and staff are invited to participate in themed dress-up days and as well as participate in spreading kindness in our community and beyond! See below for more details.

Finally, please know attendance matters. Studies have shown that students who miss 10% of the school year (18 missed days, or two days a month) are more likely to be impacted academically.  All absences -- both excused and unexcused -- impeed learning. As long as your student is healthy, please do your part to ensure your student’s strong attendance record.

The Toymaker Returns!
We are thrilled to welcome Rick Hartman, The Toy Guy, back to Wilkes!  The PTO is sponsoring this fun family event on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 6:30 pm.  Siblings are welcome too!

  • Who: FREE for all Wilkes students - Toy Kit included 
  • Cost: Toy Kits for siblings cost $8.

Volunteer Opportunities!
The PTO has a few opportunities for parents to volunteer this month.
  • Winter Recess Activity: Help at recess on December 7- Help students with a winter-themed ice art project during recess!
  • Toy Guy Family Event: PTO could use a few parent volunteers to help with set-up and sign-ins.

BISD SPIRIT & KINDNESS WEEK
Let's have some fun and focus on Kindness!
From elementary to high school students, from school staff to bus drivers, and everyone in between...BISD is excited to end 2022 with a district-wide week focused on Spirit & Kindness.
Check out the schedule & plan to participate Dec. 12-16, 2022.
MONDAY, DEC. 12
Dress Theme: Dream of Kindness (PJ day)
Kindness Theme: Kindness from Head to Toe (warm hat, gloves & socks drive for Helpline House)
TUESDAY, DEC. 13:
Dress Theme: Mix it Up for Kindness (dress in mismatch, clashing patterns/colors)
Kindness Theme: Smiles of Kindness (challenge to smile at everyone you pass in the hall)
WEDNESDAY, DEC. 14:
Dress Theme: Kindness is in the Air (dress in winter wonderland colors and/or winter clothing)
Kindness Theme: Kindness is in the Air (look for ways to spread kindness throughout the day)
THURSDAY, DEC. 15:
Dress Theme: Throwback to Kindness (dress in styles from the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s)
Kindness Theme: Can of Kindness (hearty soup donation -- pop tops preferred! -- for Helpline House)
FRIDAY, DEC. 16:
Dress Theme: A Spirit of Kindness (dress in school/district colors)
Kindness Theme: Kindness Sticks (sticky notes provided to recognize kind acts)
WILKES BOOK FAIR

Thank you for making Book Fair a success! 


What a joy it was to see so many families at our evening event and help students shop for books.The in-person portion of our Book Fair has come to an end. Families can continue to shop onlin through December 11, 2022 by visiting our Book Fair Homepage. Any remaining eWallet funds can be used online or at future Scholastic Book Fairs!
