Grandparents Newsletter
Dear TMI Grandparents,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year at TMI Episcopal.  We would like to extend a special welcome to all of the new TMI grandparents of students who enrolled this year at our school.
Grandparents have a tremendous impact in the lives of our students.  We know this because when you are on campus, our students are filled with lots of joy and smiles on their faces.  Indeed, the bond between you and your grandchildren is very special, and we want for you to be part of this time in their education and experience at TMI.  It is for this reason that we have created GRAND-NEWS especially for you!
GRAND-NEWS, a monthly newsletter, is designed to spark conversations with you and your grandchild(ren) and to keep you in the know about TMI news and events. In each issue, we will keep you informed about upcoming TMI events, celebrate our TMI student successes, and share tips and ideas for you and your grandchild(ren) to have fun and connectivity with one another.
You are a special part of our TMI Family!  We encourage you to look to us in the TMI Advancement Team to keep you connected at your grandchild's school.  We are also available to assist you with questions about school events, volunteer opportunities, and support to TMI in honor of your grandchild(ren).
Please enjoy reading this special newsletter made just for you.  We look forward to getting to know you and having your involvement at TMI.  Go Panthers!
Respectfully,
TMI Advancement Team
P.S.   For those of you who love to show off your school spirit, please be sure to check out the link to our online school spirit store included at the end of this issue.

Grandparents Day 2019

Virtual Grandparents' & Grandfriends' Day
November 18

Join us as we celebrate our first-ever Virtual Grandparents' and Grandfriends' Day!
Grandparents' and Grandfriends' Day recognizes the importance of our heritage, our community, and our relationships across generations. We believe family is key in the overall success in our students. This day brings joy and happiness to our students, faculty and staff.
Our virtual event will feature a blessing, a message to grandparents and grandfriends from our Head of School, special remarks from students about the importance of family, plus more!    More details are coming soon about this special day.
In preparation of this special day, we encourage you to take photos with your grandchildren either online or in-person.  Then, share your photos via email to the Advancement Office at advancement@tmi-sa.org and we'll share them on TMI Episcopal's facebook page on Grandparents' and Grandfriends' Day.

A virtual invitation will follow. Visit the TMI Episcopal website for more information or contact the Advancement Office at 210-564-6245 or by emailing advancement@tmi-sa.org.

FUN VIRTUAL & IN-PERSON FAMILY ACTIVITIES

Interview each other! Take notes or record it with your smartphone.
Give your grandchild something to look back on by having them interview Grandma or Grandpa! Who knows, you may find out something new yourself.

Draw a family tree, and discuss its branches.
Most families are a lot bigger than we tend to perceive. Have a virtual conversation with your grandchild and go over a little family history.

Share old photos and talk about the stories behind them.

Each photo is worth a thousand words, but oftentimes we don’t know the real story behind the photos we see. You can also take a picture of a picture and send it via text or email to give your story a time and place they can see.

Go on a walk.
Take a walk and record a short video of yourself and send it to your grandchildren. Challenge them to do the same. This is a win win as it gets the entire family moving and getting some exercise.

Have a virtual tea party.

Putting on a big fancy hat and doing a little acting is a great way to escape reality and have a little fun. Use your smartphones to facetime or do a virtual call virtual call via zoom or skype.

Draw pictures of one another.
Who knew Grandma or Grandpa was an artist? Drawings are a great keepsake for both you and your grandchild. If you need a reference use your favorite photo of each other. If you love the final product make sure to get it framed.

Watch a movie together.
Movies are a great way to pass time and relax! Pick a favorite movie to share and enjoy a healthy snack. Be sure to provide each other with thoughts about your favorite plot twists and characters. Look for online services that provide space for virtual groups to meet and watch movies together (Youtube).

Bake cookies.
Sharing the secret cookie recipe is a great way to bond and have a little fun in the kitchen. Bake them and then enjoy!

Sing karaoke and dance!
Want to see Grandma and Grandpa dance? Ask them their favorite song growing up and throw it on for a little dance party. Make sure you capture it on video!!
