NOTE FROM THE COUNSELOR
Hello Wilkes Families!

Did the hospital send you out the door with your newborn and a parenting playbook? Upon leaving the hospital with my first born, I remember thinking, “Really? You’re just going to let me go? With this human? Just drive away now?” I had dutifully read, What to Expect When You’re Expecting and The Baby Whisperer, but, as we all know, there’s so much to the art of parenting. Now, what I really could use is, “What to Expect When Your Baby is 17."

Parents/guardians need tools for this giant job. We benefit from instruction, coaching, and evidence based research. As we develop skills, we gain hope and the confidence that we just might actually be capable of raising healthy children - emotionally and socially.

Below I have listed two strong resources that can help you in your parenting journey. From avoiding power struggles, to approaching defiant behavior, to sibling rivalry, to growing empathy, the links below will prove to be beneficial, educational and effective.

Positive Discipline - creating respectful relationships in homes and schools.

Raising Resilience - supports Bainbridge Island and beyond with parenting education, resources and connections to help families thrive.
As always, please reach out to me with any questions.

Wilkes Counselor
