International Education Week (IEW) Highlights, November 11-18!

TODAY, Nov. 11 from 4 - 5 p.m. in McGuffey 322 | International Education Week Awards Ceremony
Join us in recognizing the winners of the Writing, Photo, and Digital Storytelling student contests, as well as the winner of the John E. Dolibois Faculty Award for Innovation in Global Programming and celebrating the beginning of International Education Week!

Monday, Nov. 14: Mental Health and Breaking Bread

4 - 5 p.m. in the International Student Center (MacMillan 017) | Join therapy dogs Mary and Okie for some hugs and pets. Student Counseling staff will be there to provide info about mental health and self-care. There will also be space to write a positive message to another student and receive one yourself.

5 - 7 p.m. in the lower level lounge of MacMillan Hall for Breaking Bread | Come "break bread" with the Miami community. There will be a variety of breads from all over the world that participants are welcome to sample.

Tuesday, Nov. 15: Global Crafts and Study Abroad/Away Showcase

1 - 2 p.m. in King Library (3rd floor) for Global Crafts| Engage your global spirit with Makerspace activities and crafts: Virtual Reality • Map Buttons • Laser-cut flags
- 5 - 6:30 p.m. in MacMillan Hall, 212, for Study Abroad Showcase | Come learn about studying abroad or away for spring break or summer program options directly from the faculty leading them! There will be free food and swag for all attendees.

Thursday, Nov. 17 from 5:30 - 7 p.m.: Global Friendship Thanksgiving Dinner

Step Afrika! A show that blends the percussive dance styles practiced by historically African-American fraternities and sororities, traditional African dances, and contemporary dance in songs, storytelling, and humor.

Chuseok Celebration
Saturday, November 12 from 5 - 9pm in the Armstrong Pavilion, celebrate this Korean harvest festival with the Korean American Students Association. There will be educational booths, performances and food.

Thanksgiving Break Reminders
From November 23 to November 27, there will be no classes and most university services will be closed or have shorter hours. Check the specific Miami facilities and services websites for schedule details. Please note the following:

Residence halls will close at 12pm on Wednesday, November 23 and will re-open at 9am on Sunday, November 27. Many students choose to leave campus during Thanksgiving Break, but students may still request to stay on-campus through their Online Housing Account. Please see the Campus Services website for more details and cost of University Break Housing.
- If you plan on traveling outside of Oxford, Hamilton, or Middletown during Thanksgiving
Break, arrange accordingly for your residence hall or off-campus residence (turn off electronics, secure doors and windows, arrange pet care, etc.).

If traveling outside the U.S., request a travel signature.

ISSS is looking for iPOLS to shape a positivie orientation experience for new international students arriving in Fall 2023!

During your orientation, you had International Peer Orientation Leaders (iPOLs) who welcomed you to Miami and supported your arrival and transition to campus life and living in the U.S.
All domestic, international, undergraduate and graduate students who want to make an impact on new international students and support an inclusive global community are invited to read more about becoming an iPOL.
