Milkweed Editions Presents Aviary by Deirdree McNamer
Register to join Milkweed Editions and celebrated writer Deirdre McNamer for a conversation with Milkweed Publisher and CEO Daniel Slager about her latest novel and “the secret of ongoingness.” Following their conversation, Deirdre will take questions from the audience.
With senior residence Pheasant Run at its nexus, Aviary explores an extensive cast of overlapping lives—many of whom feel themselves forgotten. But McNamer invites us to slow down and appreciate the depth of these lives, to consider the mysteries that connect them. What we learn by residing in this world is that ending up in the margins of a story (alone in a retirement home, or separated from those we thought we’d know forever, or just at the end of a series of unfortunate circumstances) doesn’t necessarily mean an absolute end—sometimes it means a new story is about to begin. Read an excerpt on Lit Hub and order the book.

SignNexus will provide CART (remote captioning) during the event (*note: captions may only appear on Zoom). Free and open to the public. Please RSVP to let us know you’re coming!  The event will also be live streamed to our Facebook page for the greater public.

Aviary is a cleansing antidote to the last few years of political and cultural turmoil, a salve to combat our still-raging health crisis, a tonic for our social media spinout . . . This quietly important book offers hope as it tackles grief and isolation and our essential humanity.“
