New Student Move-In: September 20

We'll see you on The Farm very soon! In this newsletter, you'll find detailed instructions for Move-In, along with maps and the NSO Parking Pass. Please review it carefully, print the packet, and share these instructions with any family members that will be accompanying you to Stanford.
New Student Move-In Day is Tuesday, September 20. On this day, frosh and new transfers can check in at their Housing Service Center anytime between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All new students should be checked in by 5:00 p.m.
(For those arriving to campus early for a pre-orientation program, please review the specific arrival instructions provided by your program. On-campus programs will move into their dorm rooms. Off-campus programs must wait until they return to campus on September 20 to move into their rooms.)

GETTING TO CAMPUS

Review directions to campus and transportation information from nearby airports (SFO, SJC, OAK). Once on campus, navigate to your Housing Service Center’s Check-In Location. Download the Stanford Mobile app and use the “Map” feature or go to campus-map.stanford.edu.

CHECKING IN

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Housing Service Center Check-In Locations
Go to your Housing Service Center’s Check-In Location to check in and pick up your room key and SUID card. Face masks are required for students and guests. Be ready to show a government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport. If you have already been issued a SUID card, be sure to bring it, as a new card will not be printed.
If you will be driving to campus with family members, first park your car in the nearest residential parking area (see maps) and walk over to your check in location. Free parking is available in the residential lots and garages on this day. Please do not park your car at the curb to check-in.

MOVING IN

After checking in, walk over to your residence to locate your room. Scan your SUID card at the entrance of your residence for entry. At your dorm, your residence staff will greet you and give you your NSO packet* with your NSO nametag, schedule, and other important information. Please wear your nametag for the duration of NSO.
Once you have located your room, you may wish to drive your car to the nearest curb for temporary unloading. Once you have unloaded to the curb, please re-park your car.
While a few dorms have elevators, most do not. Be sure that you are able to carry the items you pack. If you have large items, handtrucks may be available at your Housing Service Center.
Health & Safety: In accordance with university policy, face masks are required for all students and guests in the residences. Please wear your face mask in all common spaces, bathrooms, hallways, and rooms on this day.
Guests: Family members may accompany you into your residence to help you move in. If they are feeling ill, guests should stay home and refrain from coming to campus.
*Transfers: If you are living in grad housing, pick up your NSO packet on Sept 20 from the Kimball staff. All new transfers will be affiliated with Kimball Hall and Neighborhood F as your undergraduate residential community.

COVID TESTING

You will receive COVID tests at check-in. Please take your first test at move-in (Day 0) and your second test on Day 5. In preparation, create your Color Genomics testing account using your SUNetID@stanford.edu email address. If you test positive, follow the instructions online for notifying Vaden Health Center, Housing, and Dining.

Sept 20 Arrival Time Survey

To help us anticipate how busy the Housing Service Centers and traffic on campus will be throughout the day, please let us know approximately when you anticipate arriving to campus by completing this brief 2022 New Student Arrival Survey (1 minute). It is ok if your plans are preliminary and have not been finalized yet. We will use this info for traffic management purposes on Move-In Day.
If you are moving to campus before September 20 for a pre-orientation program, or if you are living in Grad Housing, please do not complete the Arrival Survey.

New Student Orientation

The 2022 NSO Schedule is now online! You'll receive a printed copy in your NSO packet.
New Student Orientation (NSO) begins on September 21 with the Opening Convocation Ceremony at 10:00 a.m. Various welcome events will be held in the afternoon. If you have family accompanying you, please enjoy the day on campus with them. Plan to say your goodbyes by 5:00 p.m. so that you can have dinner with your dorm and attend the required First Housing Meeting. Convocation will be livestreamed for families not joining us on campus.
Look through the schedule to see what you can expect for Move-In and NSO. You should participate fully in NSO and must attend all of the required programs. Please do not make any plans to leave campus during NSO.
New Transfers: Transfers will experience NSO together as a cohort guided by the Kimball Hall residence staff. All transfers will meet in Kimball Hall for residence-based NSO programs.
NSO Disability Accommodations: If you or guests have accessibility questions or will need accommodations during NSO, please contact the Diversity & Access Office: disability.access@stanford.edu, 650-725-0326.
