Alumni Profile Meet Daira Hoegh Driftmier '05 Current Town: Norwalk, Iowa
Education:
B.A. in exercise science and health promotion.
About me: I had heart surgery as an overweight 12-year-old. This gave me perspective on how to live with challenges that life throws at you. Before surgery, I was a kid who was afraid to play tag because I couldn't run without feeling out of breath. After surgery, I grew to be a kid who excelled at almost every challenge and sport by focusing on what I could do and encouraging those around me. This simple message is a tool I use to help kids who may have the same feelings of doubt I had through Hy-Vee KidsFit.

CUI Valentines - 75 Years and Counting
Marv Baker '46 taught ground school on Central's campus along with fellow classmates Ray Doorenbos '56 and Keith Emmert '49, who taught flying during the second world war. Rev. Prins was the coordinator of the ground school, and it was in his office where Marv first laid eyes on Flo, the pretty brunette working as Rev. Prins' office assistant. On July 31, 1943, Rev. Prins married Marv and Flo. When Marv, Ray, and Keith were deferred from military service to teach Navy Ensigns, they decided they wanted to "get into the action" and joined the Air Force. Eventually, the three classmates who were originally scheduled to graduate with the Class of 1944, returned to Central to complete their degrees. Marv and Flo made their home in San Diego, California, where they raised their son. In 2005, Marv retired from McGladrey Pullen as a CPA. Happy Valentine's Day Marv and Flo!

| Win a T-Shirt
Answer online for a chance to win a Central College T-shirt. The winner's name is drawn from all correct entries received on the date the newsletter was released. Congratulations to Brian Fyfe '15, who responded to the challenge: "What persistent thought keeps President Putnam up at night?" The answer was: The myriad of professional pathways that lie ahead for our graduates and how they might be affected by significant changes in automation, computerization, and artificial intelligence.
Try this Month's Challenge: If it wasn't for WWII, classmates Marv, Ray, and Keith would have had the same class year upon graduation from Central College. When were they originally scheduled to graduate?
