Shaney Watters

"Just the Way You Are"  24" x 24"  Mixed Media
Shaney Watters

I cannot pretend to feel impartial about colours.  I rejoice with the brilliant ones and am genuinely sorry for the poor browns.                                                        -W. Churchill

Born in Ohio, Shaney Watters spent her childhood in a small village in the Netherlands.  She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in two-dimensional media from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington in 1995.  She then went on to earn her Masters Degree in Psychology with further post-graduate studies in Art Therapy.

Shaney set aside her creative endeavors while pursuing her career as a Marriage Family Therapist, but ultimately realized that an important part of her was missing and made a return to art making after a dozen years.  In 2011, Shaney signed up for an adult painting class and hasn’t looked back since.

Influenced by nature, in particular her reverence for the animal kingdom, Shaney is inspired to create her colorful and whimsical abstracted animal portraits.  As a mixed media painter, she is unable to imagine declaring loyalty to just one medium.  Within the layers of her paintings one can spy stain, acrylics, gold leaf, colored pencil, and oil paint, all topped with shiny resin.  Her joyful work can be found in homes of collectors throughout the United States and her latest achievement is being elected as the President of the Pasadena Society of Artists, an association with a rich 96-year history.
PSA Executive Board ELECTION RESULTS

PresBuzz
Hi Fellow Artists!

Happy spring to all and I hope you are finding ways to enjoy the spring weather.  I feel like this is the beginning of a new season, both literally and figuratively.  I don’t know about you, but I’m excited to begin to safely re-engage in the world as it becomes possible.

Please bear with me during the evolution of the ‘Buzz’ as I settle into my new role.  I remain excited and committed to carrying on PSA inspiration while also adding a bit of my own flair.  I would love to hear from other members as to what your needs/wants for the association are. One of the items on my personal wish list is to create critique/feedback groups and opportunities.  I don’t know about you, but I think other artists' feedback is such a powerful tool.  Please feel free to join the conversation!

Short & sweet today so there’s more time to make art!

Warmly,
Shaney
PSA President

Ruth Lindsay Virtual Exhibition

The Ruth Lindsay exhibition was presented to the members of the Fine Arts Club of Pasadena during their February 2021 virtual meeting.  The paintings featured in this exhibition belong to both PSA and the Lindsay family.  Ruth Lindsay was active in PSA during the 1930s and 1940s.  She was the President of PSA from 1939 to 1941.  Use the link below to view the exhibition.  Enjoy!  Unfortunately this exhibition is not viewable on a smart phone.
