Letter from the Principal

Dear SUA Families,
SUA is kicking off this year's Leadership Speaker Series with our very own Julie Carrier! Julie has been named the #1 Coach for Young Women by Leading Global Coaches and is a global authority on leadership development for girls. She has been selected by Thinkers50 as one of the Top 8 Coaches in the World for her trailblazing work in bringing best practice leadership coaching and development to young women during their most formative years of development.
Julie is an award-winning author, speaker, and trusted authority on leadership development for girls. Prior to bringing evidence-based leadership development to high school students, Julie served as a Senior Management Consultant in leadership development for the Pentagon, where she developed cutting-edge neuroscience-based leadership programs for senior executives. She is on the Advisory Board for the United Nations Foundation’s global leadership development program for girls, Girl Up, and has been awarded the “Woman of the Decade for Girl Empowerment” by the Women Economic Forum.
Additionally, Julie is the founder of the Girls’ Leadership Advisory Council, and we are thrilled that she serves as an advisor to the Leadership Program at St. Ursula Academy.
Julie will be visiting SUA on Thursday, October 27, and will present to three different groups of students at different times throughout the day: 1) Freshmen and Sophomores, 2) Junior Academy, 3) Juniors and Seniors.
Given the structure of the day, we have a staggered start planned for Thursday, October 27. Freshmen and Sophomores will report to school at 8:00 a.m. Junior Academy students, as well as Juniors and Seniors, will begin school at 9:00 a.m. All students will be dismissed at 3:00 p.m. SUA opens its doors at 7:00 a.m. for parents who needs to drop their daughters off early prior to work.
We look forward to welcoming Julie Carrier to SUA!

Testing Day - October 25
SUA has a special schedule day on Tuesday, Oct. 25, for students in grades 9-11 to take mandated tests. Grades 6-7 do not have school, grade 8 has a class retreat, and seniors do not have school.
To prepare students in grades 9-11 for testing, please read the following:
- Freshmen will take the PreACT as a preliminary measure of readiness for the ACT.
- Sophomores and Juniors will take the PSAT. For Juniors, the PSAT is also the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). The PSAT Student Guide, which contains further details and two practice tests, was distributed a couple weeks ago to students.
More information regarding each test and details related to test day can be found on the Academic Central Canvas page available to all students. A couple weeks ago, Freshmen had a pre-administration session for their tests and will not need to complete any additional questions on test day.
Sophomores and Juniors will complete their questionnaires during test day on October 25. Questions will ask them to provide demographic information and decide if they want to participate in the Student Search Service, through which the collected information may be shared with other educational organizations. Parents are encouraged to review the questions that will be asked regarding the Students Search Service with their student prior to test day. The privacy policy and questionnaire for the PSAT are linked below. Feel free to review the documents and discuss with your daughter the ways she should respond to those questions.

Sophomore College and Career Exploration Class
As we prepare for Term 2, I wanted to inform you of the College and Career Exploration class that will take place from 7:45 a.m.- 2:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16. College and Career Exploration is a class that all Sophomores are required to take during their Sophomore year. The class will be held at the Franciscan Center of Lourdes University.
The class is designed to help students explore various self-assessments that will allow for personal growth and reflection. While leadership has many parts, one of the core foundations of leadership is knowing and understanding oneself first. That concept will be the basis of this workshop—each student learning her individual recipe for success.
Students will participate in the workshop alongside sophomore class teachers, administrators, and school and college counselors to complete personality assessments, explore potential careers, and identify strengths and areas for opportunities.
Check-in is at 7:45 a.m. at the Franciscan Center of Lourdes University; pick-up will be at 2:45 p.m. Limited parking will be available for SUA students at the Francsican Center. Lunch will be provided. Students will need to bring their laptops and water bottles.
If students miss the College and Career Exploration class on Nov. 16, they must retake it the following year with the Sophomore class.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact College Counselor Mrs. Tobias at rtobias@toledosua.org.
