Whitman College President Kathy Murray Announces Plans to Retire in 2022

In a statement to the Whitman College community on Feb. 22, 2021, Kathleen M. Murray, the college’s 14th president, announced her plans to retire at the end of the 2021-2022 school year.

Whitman’s annual student-run Power & Privilege Symposium, which provides opportunities for the Whitman community to discuss forms of structural oppression, opened with a keynote address and discussion led by Nigerian-American writer and photographer Teju Cole.

Documentary screening with Carolyn McCaskill and Ceil Lucas '73

Alumni, students, families and friends of Whitman College are invited to screen the documentary film Signing Black in America with associate producers Carolyn McCaskill and Ceil Lucas '73.

Signing Black in America is the first documentary to highlight the development of Black American Sign Language. Based on extensive interviews with Black signers, linguistic experts, interpreters, natural conversations, and artistic performances by Black ASL users, it documents the development and description of this unique ethnic variety of ASL.

Workshop hosted by the Student Engagement Center and the Counseling Center for Families of Seniors

Families of Whitman's class of 2021 are invited to join staff from the Student Engagement Center (SEC) and the Counseling Center for a virtual interactive workshop on March 25, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. PT. This workshop is specifically designed for parents and families to focus on sharing your home with your student after graduation and supporting them during the transition. Registration is not required to participate in the workshop. Contact Noah Leavitt, Director of the Student Engagement Center, with questions.
