Ash Wednesday

Today at 11 a.m., we will observe Ash Wednesday. Our twenty-minute service marking the start of the season of Lent will close with a brief reflection set to music provided by our own pianist, Onawa Henson, playing "Trois Gnossiennes" by Eric Satie. Immediately following the 11 a.m. liturgy, anyone on campus who is interested in receiving the imposition of ashes is invited to line up outside the entrance to the chapel where Mother Gray will be administering ashes safely using separate q-tips for each individual.

Afternoon Programs Today

Tennis, track, and varsity soccer will meet for boarders today at 2:30-4:30 p.m. Day students who can SAFELY get to campus may also attend. When making this decision, please consult the weather forecast. It appears that a second storm may be entering the area this afternoon. All other Afternoon Programs will meet from 2:30-3:30 p.m. online.

Winter Athletic Awards

This Thursday during J-Block (12:45-1:30 p.m.), we will be celebrating our Winter athletic teams. Athletes have been asked to be in formal dress (as defined in our Student Handbook) and will gather in Wood-Alligood Gymnasium at 12:40 p.m. Parents and others may view the ceremony through the J-Block link. While this season has been different for each team, our coaches have made the experience positive for all involved as we have developed physically, socially, and emotionally by having this shared experience.

Climbing Trip this Weekend

There will be a climbing trip open to Upper School day and boarding students this Saturday from 1-5 p.m. For more information, contact Outdoor Education and Place-Based Learning Coorfdinator Michael Short. View a video from a recent climbing trip.

Weekend Activities

Day Sophomores May Remain on Campus Friday Evening

Because of COVID concerns, weekend activities this year have largely been limited to boarding students. With active case numbers in the region continuing to fall, we are experimenting with allowing some Upper School day students to remain on campus for Friday evening activities. This Friday, it will be the sophomores turn. Students must check-in, may not be in student residences, and must leave campus by 10 p.m. This Friday's activities will take place in Owen Student Union and Wood-Alligood Gymnasium.

Easing Up a Little

Because the active case rate in our region continues to go down, and our weekly testing has been positively negative, we are beginning to look at ways to ease up on our campus restrictions while maintaining many of our safety protocols. The invitations for limited numbers of day students to remain on campus on Friday evenings has been a part of this plan. This weekend, we will experiment with a mixed (day/boarding) climbing trip and weekend van runs for our boarders on Saturday. While our intention is to continue to open up as conditions allow, it is important that our community understand that these plans may change as area and campus data require.

Need to Change an Afternoon Program?

Because of the delayed start to spring Afternoon Programs, the add/drop period has been extended to Tuesday. If your child needs to change their Afternoon Program, please email the Assistant to the Academic Dean Shawna Midgett.

Need Afterschool Care for your Middle School Student?

Middle School students may not be on campus after 3:30 p.m. unless they are engaged in an Afternoon Program or attend MAC (Middle School After Care). Register here. Questions? Contact Lizzie Duncan.

Winterim, March 1-5

Students will begin registering for Winterim classes this week. Winterim is a regular part of our school year, and attendance is required. View this year's Winterim schedule and course offerings. Please note that there is a $30 charge for the overnight camping trips.
