Parent-to-Parent: Back to School

Dear Parent,

Welcome to the Fall 2020 semester. We are so excited to have so many of our students join us back on the Mountain campus throughout August. This is an exciting time as our freshmen and transfer students officially join the Lumberjack family and our returning students join us for the Fall 2020 semester.

This edition of the Backpack includes information and reminders that will help make the start of fall semester as smooth as possible. Check Out the NAU Healthcheck

You may have heard about NAU Healthcheck as way of helping to assess your Lumberjack’s wellness and mitigating the spread of COVID-19. To ensure the safety of our Lumberjack community, NAU is requiring all active faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students complete a daily wellness assessment on NAU Healthcheck.

All faculty, staff and enrolled students are asked to complete this assessment every day, even on weekends and even if working remotely or attending class online. NAU Healthcheck will also be a condition for entering NAU facilities and programs.

Fall Back into Campus Recreation

As we return for the fall, Campus Recreation is excited to welcome students back in person and virtually. Does your student know about all the opportunities available? If not, let them know today!

Encourage your student to stay active with Campus Recreation’s virtual fitness opportunities. Students can access online classes and zoom opportunities on our virtual fitness page.
Remind your student that we’re hosting events frequently to create community on campus! Get involved and find out all the details with NAU’s Your Path program.

NAU’s Entrepreneurship Courses

With your college student beginning their next chapter at NAU, now is the time to act on your next chapter. Have you ever dreamed of owning your own business? 

Northern Arizona University understands what it takes to begin a business and is now offering two new self-paced and affordable courses. Our new Entrepreneurship micro-credential program features:

Instant access to small business development tools and live coaches for up to 90 days at the low price of $50.
E-learning courses to help you succeed with evaluating your idea, creating or fine-tuning a business plan, developing a pitch to investors, and much more.
There is an option to earn a digital badge to display on your electronic resume and online professional profile for instant recognition of your entrepreneurial knowledge.

If you’ve ever thought about owning your own business or had a business start-up idea, our Entrepreneurship I: Shirtsleeve Startup course will provide you with the tools and skills to get started.

Entrepreneurship II: Baking an Idea will provide you with the business-critical skills to cultivate and grow your existing business.

NAU Safe is available for download from your app store.

Tech Update: NAUgo featuring LOUIEgo and NAU Safe App

In August, NAU rolled out two new application updates for your Lumberjack to use while navigating NAU.

The LOUIEgo feature gives your Lumberjack a personalized experience within the NAUgo app to stay informed and connected. Remind your student to download NAUgo for quick and easy access to:

Real-time shuttle trackers
Dining options, hours, and ordering
Campus and parking maps
Events and connections
Scheduling appointments with their advisor
Completing their daily NAU Healthcheck
Viewing their class schedule

NAU has also released a new safety alert mechanism called NAU Safe. It is a downloadable application in the Apple and Google application stores and is free and customizable by campus location. It is a great way for parents to stay informed about campus emergencies. Students who have a mobile phone number listed in their id.nau.edu (Louie) account will receive SMS text notifications, or they can download the app to receive notifications.
