Dear Class of 2027 and Transfers,

Happy August! This is a great month for fountain-hopping on campus (see photo above of students enjoying this tradition) as well as for preparing for Stanford. Over the next few weeks, we'll have a lot to share with you: first year course updates, housing assignment notifications, frosh academic advisor introductions, required trainings in university core values, and so much more. So, if you haven't already, start checking your Stanford email regularly!
August 1 Enrollment Holds: In addition to the "New Student Advisement" Enrollment Hold (released during NSO for frosh; released by August 30 for transfers), all frosh and transfers have two additional enrollment holds requiring the completion of action steps in Axess. Log into Axess now and check your "To Do" list to complete:

"Ask an Advisor" Q&A Board

Have an academic question? Post it now on the "Ask an Advisor" Q&A Board in Canvas! Don't know what questions to ask? Browse the posts and see what folks are talking about.
Throughout August, we will be sharing academic information for you to consider. If you have questions about the topics we introduce, or if you have any academic questions in general, post them in Canvas. Our team of friendly neighborhood Undergraduate Advising Directors (UADs) are eager to reply to you from now through August 18. On August 21, your assigned UAD will email you and invite you to sign up for a small group advising meeting where you can begin a more individualized advising conversation.

Math and Physics Placement Diagnostics

The Placement Diagnostics for Math and Physics opened on August 1. If you are considering taking Math and/or Physics this year, you should take the diagnostics by August 31 for guidance on which course(s) would be best for you to begin with at Stanford.
For access to the diagnostics and detailed guidance from the departments, see
Because the placement assessments open before the course listings for the upcoming year are published, incoming students are often unsure whether to take any of the diagnostics/tests. Our recommendation is to take them! Take them, even if you have no idea what courses you might enroll in this fall. Your results will provide you useful information that you can bring to your advising meeting with your academic advisor. These placement results are private and used only for course placement purposes; they do not appear on your transcript. Moreover, taking the diagnostic/test does not commit you to enrolling in the recommended course; it just gives you more options when course enrollment opens.

Yerba Mate Chat with OC Miguel: Wednesday
