Will hydrogen break out as a key source in the coming years?
Will hydrogen break out as a key source in the coming years?
News focused exclusively on financing for
energy efficiency and renewable energy
Among the thousands of readers in this community, we have enough investors to nurture any carbon-free power. When we saw a breakthrough in fusion energy this month, we also felt more motivated to keep deploying clean technologies already at large in our economy. Fortunately, our community includes enough thinkers and tinkerers to evolve business strategies for employment, and pricing in all sources.
This month, our reporter explores how incentives in the Inflation Reduction Act are fostering new business models for the production, transmission, and deployment of hydrogen from water. Our news roundup shows other investors tapping other incentives. It adds up to new ways to transmit energy, new ways to add value to the energy system, and new conviction that carbon falls away from growth.
We'll be rolling out new stories and new tools in the new year to boost the case for clean energy. Until we return in January, we're wishing you peace, reflection, connection and hope. Be well.

Explainer: How Do Tax Credits Help Green Hydrogen Get Going in the US?
Douglas Leung
If enterprises can extract hydrogen from water and ship it where consumers need its energy, it can be a fossil-free fuel source. To date, cost has posed a steep challenge to making hydrogen compelling. Incentives in the Inflation Reduction Act aim to encourage "green hydrogen" generation and transmission. Our writer talks to some entrepreneurs taking the plunge.

Notes From the Field

  • The drumbeat grows louder for EV charging as an on-site amenity at apartment buildings.
  • In Puerto Rico, residents with the foresight to build a solar microgrid largely rode out the storm.
  • And a World Cup fan favorite shows leadership in the more important (really!) race to decarbonize.
