Vancouver Connects

The recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the City of Grants Pass, Oregon v. Johnson recognized that addressing homelessness is complex and best left not to judges but to the people and their elected representatives. The ruling does not change the urgency surrounding the issues related to homelessness or the City's ongoing work to end this humanitarian crisis. Our Homelessness Assistance and Resources Team (HART) continues to provide compassionate response to unsheltered community members and conducts regular encampment clean ups in areas that pose public health risks. Both HART and Vancouver Police also continue to regularly cite individuals who commit certain quality of life offenses into our Community Court program.

We've been awarded a nearly $17.5 million RAISE (Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity) federal grant to help kickstart work on our Heights District Project in central Vancouver. This funding will help bring the Grand Loop to life—a two-way complete street with a beautiful linear park. This project will enhance connectivity between the Heights District and neighboring areas, making our city more pedestrian- and bike-friendly than ever before. 

In recent years, Vancouver has shifted from a commuter town to a thriving economic hub for our region. We're beginning work on a new Economic Development Strategy to support small businesses, neighborhood commercial districts, job creation and more.
