RCN Updates & Reminders: April 2021
As always, if you have any questions or need any assistance, please reach out to the START office or anyone on the START team.

Share your Story!

Our ask is simple. Please join us in our 20 year celebration by sharing your experiences and stories about working with START. We have also included a few writing prompts on the submission form for you to consider.

Training Webinars or Recorded Videos

Does your RCN have any training webinars or recorded videos that you are willing to share with others? START is seeking any publicly available training webinars or recorded videos to link on our website in order to make them available to a wider audience. If you have any webinars or videos to share, or questions related to this, please contact Kellie Fitzgerald

RCN Applications: Phased Roll-Out

We are excited to share that we are taking a little different approach to the RCN Contract Application for 2021-2022. This will involve a phased roll-out over the next two months to allow the RCN more time to identify priorities and select goals and activities that are meaningful for their schools, students, and families. This roll-out began in March, by asking RCN to explore the “Compelling Why” for their work during their March RCN meeting and to do some basic data mapping. START has provided guidance, including materials and videos to support this process.
In April, START will provide the RCN with more information about the contract requirements related to goals and activities. Although we will maintain some required components of the contract, RCN will be afforded flexibility in determining how to achieve the goals of each priority. At the Spring RCN Leadership Day, we will share more information about the goals, activities, and budgeting and provide you with time to work as an RCN team to create your plan for next year.
We recommend scheduling at least 45 minutes at your April RCN meetings to work with your START representative to begin this process. If you have not scheduled an RCN meeting for April, you can review the information individually or in small groups. The submission deadline for the application will remain the end of June. To gain access to the 2021-2022 application preparation materials Google Folder, please contact your RCN leadership or your START RCN representative.

Introducing the Refreshed START Logo

In January, we launched a refreshed START logo to kick of the celebration of our 20 year anniversary. Collaboration and partnerships are core values of START, and it is critical to us that our logo represent those values. The work of the START Project is only possible through the dedication and commitment of an entire community of educators, families, and partners working together, collaboratively, to support students. We invite you to read more about the intention behind our refreshed logo.
In addition, we invited our partners and trainers to update their materials and resources as well. We have launched a new page on our website outlining our standards, formatting, and logo guidelines.

Submitting RCN Standalone Trainings for the START Website

  • Each RCN should submit at least one RCN-provided stand-alone training per semester using START content delivered by START EPLI trainers. The training will be included in the events listing on the START website, and should be open to the RCN and the broader region, including families and community partners. Events should be submitted here.
  • Note: START understands the circumstances and challenges surrounding trainings. This goal can be met through virtual trainings, recordings, webinars, or other training formats.
  • The submitted events will be posted here on the START website as they are received. Please share this with your local contacts!
Statewide Autism Resources and Training (START) Project is funded by the Michigan Department of Education, Office of Special
