Today the college learned that five more SUNY Oneonta students have tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total number of confirmed cases among our campus community to seven. Two students tested positive yesterday.
All seven of the affected students live off campus and are isolating off campus. The Otsego County Department of Health (DOH) is conducting contact tracing, with support from the college, and will attempt to notify others with whom the affected students may have had close contact. The affected students will be able to resume normal activities upon approval of the DOH.
We are working to determine whether the students have been on campus, and we will perform extra cleaning of any spaces where they have spent time, consistent with guidance from the New York State Department of Health.
We are taking additional proactive measures to contain the situation. Although there has been no quantifiable level of COVID-19 in our wastewater, we have increased the frequency of our wastewater testing. We will also begin pooled surveillance testing through SUNY Upstate this week.
Thank you to all of our essential workers and everyone who is following the college’s actions for safety. We are all in this together, and we will get through it together.
