UMKC Parent & Family Programs Newsletter

Welcome from the Deans
Welcome new parents and family members, and welcome back returning Roo families! We are excited to help you stay involved, get connected, and support your student's success at UMKC.
We have launched one of UMKC's favorite traditions: Summer Orientation. We encourage all incoming families to visit the Parent and Family Virtual Orientation Platform, full of resources created just for you.
Parents and family members are critical partners in upholding UMKC community values. In creating this partnership, we want to acknowledge another essential UMKC tradition: building a community of learning that values accountability, respect, collaboration, integrity, and safety for all of its members. We encourage you to learn more about UMKC priorities and how our key values are put into action in this university-wide statement. We also encourage you to learn more about UMKC's #RoosUnited campaign, highlighting our commitment to pursuing justice and equity.
As UMKC continues to get #RooReady for an exciting and meaningful fall semester, we want to introduce ourselves. Connect with us via email and through the UMKC Parents and Families Facebook Group.
With Roo Pride,
Todd Wells and Keichanda Dees-Burnett, Co-Interim Dean of Students and Vice Provost for Student Affairs

#RoosUnited
At UMKC, we stand in solidarity with our black students, faculty, staff, alumni, families, and community members against systemic racism and in pursuit of justice and equity. The university is sharing a series of video messages from members of our campus community about their hopes as we move forward together. All are welcome here, but racism is not.

FERPA, AAA, and Student Privacy
We encourage you and your student to discuss expectations around your access to your student's academic, financial, and directory information. We recommend all families understand the basics of FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and AAA (Additional Authorized Access), as these policies directly affect UMKC student records and privacy information. Questions? Contact Registration and Records--we're here to help!
