Meet Noah! He's a first-generation student from New Albany, and a junior majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
Q: What student orgs are you involved in?
A: First Generation Student Network, Ole Miss Esports, Housing A&C Committee, Grove Grocery
Q: What are your favorite things to do off campus?
A: Spending time with my girlfriend or family, getting coffee, playing video games with my friends
Q: How does being a first-gen student shape your college experience?
A: There’s a lot of running into walls that my peers could avoid because they had guidance. My family has been so supportive, but it’s difficult to not have someone who’s been through it before. My first year of college was just catching up with those around me.
Q: What kind of support have you found at UM as a first-gen student?
A: I’ve had so many professors and advisors who understand where I’m coming from. My biggest support has been meeting other first-generation students who can help each other. They’re one of the main reasons I’ve made it this far in my college career.
Q: What would you like to do after graduation?
A: I want to earn a master's and Ph.D. in higher education, ideally staying in Mississippi to work in a college environment and mentor students with similar backgrounds, like so many university staff have done for me.
