Ole Miss Script

Bye, gotta get back to the Grove.

Eli Manning: 10/10

Ole Miss will retire Eli Manning’s number 10 this weekend at the LSU game. He’s the third Ole Miss player to have his number retired – after his dad Archie and Chucky Mullins. Expect to see some Mannings in town this weekend. 👀

We CARE

More than 5,000 community members participated in the College Panhellenic Council and the Baptist Cancer Center’s 19th annual CARE Walk on Tuesday, Oct. 19, a fundraising event on the Ole Miss campus to raise money for breast cancer patients. The money will benefit local uninsured residents by helping provide access to breast cancer diagnostic tools, such as mammograms, ultrasounds, research and more. Congrats!

Bonus: congrats to the Ole Miss men’s basketball team for raising $10,157 for cancer research!

Halloween is on a weekend!

Feels like we’ve been waiting since summer for Halloween. Now that it’s almost here, let’s make sure it’s as fun as you hoped by planning a costume that checks out and making a plan to get home safely. Ask yourself the questions below to make sure your costume isn’t culturally insensitive:
  • Does this costume represent a culture that I’m not part of?
  • Is this costume meant to be funny because it mocks real people, cultures or human traits?
  • Is this costume based on stereotypes or misinformation?
  • Does this costume mimic traditional clothing or accessories of a specific culture that I’m not part of? Red flags: if the costume packaging says "traditional," "ethnic," "colonial," "cultural," "authentic" or "tribal."
  • Would I be embarrassed if someone from the group I’d be dressed as saw me wearing this?
If you answered yes to any of these, consider a different costume that lets you express yourself without offending others. When in doubt or if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement.

And friendly reminder that social media isn’t private, anyone can take your picture and sometimes impact means more than intent. Good thing you’re so smart and creative. 🎃
