MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Sakai Families,
While it’s a healthy practice to express gratitude all year, November is the month that we take a moment to reflect on things we are fortunate for and appreciate people in our lives.

As I’ve mentioned before, one way we work toward our District Improvement Plan goal of “Health, Well-Being and Safety” is in our weekly COHO lessons. Today in COHO students will discuss the importance of gratitude and set up a gratitude journal. They will be tasked with writing five things they are grateful for each night over a period of five days. Then, students will be asked to express their gratitude by picking one thinking from their list and acting on it. For instance, thanking someone in their life that is important to them. Tonight you might help get your child started by discussing with them things you are grateful for and asking them to do the same. This article was not shared with students but is a nice quick read for parents on the importance of gratitude for children's health.

I am immensely grateful for our Bainbridge Island community and for being able to work with the students, families, and staff at Sakai. Families, thank you so much for your partnership and for sharing your children with us.

I hope you have a wonderful week, Sakai!

VISION AND HEARING SCREENING
On Thursday, Nov. 18th, Vision and Hearing screening will be taking place for all students in 5th grade.

We do not routinely test 6th grade students, but we can include them in the screening sessions by parent request.
If you want your 6th grade student included in the vision and/or hearing screening please let us know.

We hope to have at least 3 volunteers each, for morning and afternoon sessions- 8:45am-11:30am and 12:30pm-2:30pm!  We are in need for volunteers for the afternoon session.  See the Sign-up Genius link attached. Thank you!

All volunteers must have completed our district's application process outlined here: https://www.bisd303.org/Domain/1809

All volunteers must review the COVID-19  Safety Handbook, complete the COVID-19 quiz and verify their COVID vaccinations are completed.  Even if a volunteer is "active" they are still required to complete these new additions prior to volunteering.

Please wait to sign up until you have completed this process.

Hearing Test: The hearing test consists of a routine screening with an Audiometer.

Parents will be notified if the school health screening results indicate that a healthcare provider follow-up is recommended.
If you do not want your child screened please let us know as soon as possible.

We welcome any questions you may have regarding this process or your child’s screening results. We are happy to help in any way.
