Greetings from the University Staff Advisory Council!

December Meeting Highlights

  • Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of the Graduate School, C. André Christie-Mizell, joined us to share updates on the exciting work taking place to enhance Graduate Education at Vanderbilt. As part of this initiative, the Graduate School launched a new endeavor to provide all new Ph.D. students with a $2,000 moving stipend, making Vanderbilt the first school in the country to pilot a program of this kind. In addition, Dean Christie-Mizell shared an update on the Graduate and Professional Student housing project, the Broadview at Vanderbilt, set to open in June 2023.

  • Amari Dryden, Director of Career Development for the Student-Athlete Summer Internship Program shared how she is helping athletes turn their passions into professions. The program matches students with departments on campus or companies in Nashville that are aligned with their interests and experiences. Whether the student lands an unpaid or paid position, the program provides housing and meals over the summer for students. If you are interested in having a student athlete intern this summer, you can participate in the Student Athlete Internship Fair on February 28 at 6pm. Email Amari for more information! amari.dryden@vanderbilt.edu.

"I have been involved with USAC for 1.5 years and it has given me such an expanded perspective on things happening at the university. I have a new appreciation for all the sub committees and the work they do to improve staff life, and I was specifically so proud to be involved with USAC during the time that the paid parental leave changes were being suggested to leadership."

Employee Hardship Fund is transitioning to the Employee Critical Support Fund

Vanderbilt's Faculty and Staff Hardship Fund has provided assistance to qualifying faculty and staff who are experiencing a temporary hardship due to a significant life event. Historically housed within VUMC, the fund will transition to Vanderbilt University ownership beginning January 2023.

We will be sharing updates on how to contribute and access the funds in the new year!
If you are currently experiencing a temporary hardship due to a significant life event, you may qualify for the employee hardship fund. Visit the Hardship Fund website for eligibility criteria.
