MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Hello Sakai Families,

Thank you for your continued support as we navigate through this year. If last spring felt like, “building the plane as we fly it”, this year feels more like learning how to sail our ship. We are working hard to provide the best remote learning program possible for our students. Our staff has been so intentional and thoughtful through this first month of creating a virtual learning environment that is structured and engaging, while also being responsive to student needs. We will continue to make any adjustments if needed and strive towards creating the most supportive experience for our students.

It was wonderful to see so many families on Friday at our materials pick up. Thank you for braving the rain! If you were unable to swing by we will have the bags out tomorrow afternoon, September 29, from 3 to 6. You can also always swing by the office to pick them up during the day.

At the School Board meeting last week, Dr. Bang-Knudsen provided the board an update on the Reopening Plan. The Board Presentation and meeting recording are both available if you weren’t able to virtually attend.

As always, please reach out to me if you have any questions.

Have a wonderful week!

Drew

DISTRICT NEWS
What's Device Insurance?

Just as you insure your home or car to protect you from accidental damages, families  may purchase insurance for BISD's “take home devices” (Chromebooks, iPads, etc.)

This insurance is optional but highly recommended, as the cost of replacing an uninsured BISD device is approximately $428 compared to the annual insurance price of $35. The insurance policy is between the parent/guardian and the Worth Ave. Group. The deadline to purchase insurance for the 20-21 school year is 9 p.m. (PST) on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020. To access device and insurance documents, please login to Family Access and complete the Online form.

Families who can’t afford the $35 annual insurance fee should contact their school’s front office to inquire about possible scholarship funding. A list of all school front office contact information can be found on this webpage: https://www.bisd303.org/domain/45. NOTE: BHS families should apply by using the online YES Scholarship Form.

For more information,  please reference this list of FAQs.

Superintendent Peter Bang-Knudsen, School Board President Lynn Smith and School Board Vice President Christina Hulet will provide an update on the district and answer questions.
