Jennifer Sinclair is a Kindergarten teacher at Nichols Hills Elementary. She has been teaching at Nichols Hills Elementary for 24 years, and 28 years with Oklahoma City Public Schools.
Jennifer received a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood and a Master’s in Education/Early Childhood from the University of Central Oklahoma. Jennifer uses a child-centered approach to classroom teaching where focusing on a cooperative rather than competitive environment builds self-esteem and confidence in students. She believes it is important that students are given a variety of challenges every day because these opportunities help kids develop critical thinking skills.
Jennifer believes an outstanding teacher is one who is passionate about children and what they can achieve. As an educator, Jennifer strives to guide her kindergarten students each day in the learning process and shows them they are valued in her classroom.
Jennifer volunteers her time in Pack 55 Cub Scouts and served as the Tiger Cub leader last year. She also serves as the teacher liaison to the Nichols Hills Enterprise Elementary board. Jennifer has served as a cooperating teacher to student teachers and observers by having college students come into the classroom and guide them in hands-on learning as they interact with the class. She also serves as a lead mentor teacher to help new teachers to the building work with a mentor teacher.
Jennifer says one of her greatest contributions in education is working closely each year with the families of her students. She strives to build strong daily communication with her classroom parents. She has established a successful volunteer program in her classroom over the years and looks forward to it returning when it is safe to do so. She invites parents into her room to help with learning centers and tutor individual students.
Jennifer was named a Great Ideas Grant recipient, Nichols Hills Teacher of the Year and has been named a past OKCPS Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalist. She has written several Donors Choose grants for her classroom as well. She is trained in Great Expectations and Core Knowledge and is a nationally board-certified teacher.
