The coming weeks are filled with new and engaging events in the Gardens and online. In this Longwood from Home, we invite you to read more about Olmsted 200 events, register for our upcoming Member talk or new community classes, and explore our latest Longwood Reimagined Beauty in the Making moment.
As part of the nationwide Olmsted 200 celebration led by the National Association for Olmsted Parks, join us in honoring the bicentennial of the birth of visionary landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted and his enduring influence on September 24 and 25.
Here at Longwood, enjoy an Olmsted-focused talk, Chimes Tower tours, and an Inspired by Olmsted carillon concert each day with award-winning carillonneurs Geert D’hollander and Ellen Dickinson as they present their compositions inspired by the life and legacy of Olmsted.
Our Meadow Garden may seem largely untouched, but careful, purposeful stewardship and management underlie the biodiversity and beauty of this dynamic landscape. On September 22 at 12 pm, join Longwood Associate Director of Land Stewardship and Ecology Lea Johnson, Ph.D., as she shares how she and her team combine horticulture and ecology to care for this 86-acre native landscape. Lea will also share tips to inspire you to create your own meadow at home.
On September 15 and October 6, Members receive 20% off in The Garden Shop, The Café, and 1906. Please note: Discount in The Garden Shop does not apply to already discounted items. Reservations for 1906 are strongly encouraged via OpenTable.
Free, timed Member reservations are required for all Membership levels, except for Gardens Premium Members and Innovators, if arriving after 3 pm on these days.
Join us for Plantology on Tap—themed events held monthly at The Creamery that combine plants, food, and drink—for an engaging botanical talk paired with a delicious small bite and signature cocktail to round out the fun. This fall, featured classes are Perfect Peppers (September 15) and Mums Galore (October 20).
On September 17 at 10:30 am or 12 pm or October 15 at 10:30 am, join Longwood staff for an introduction to our Gardens and discover all your Membership has to offer. Learn more about your Member benefits, visiting tips, and the history of Longwood. Afterward, enjoy a 60-minute Garden tour!
Part of our Longwood Reimagined project is the construction of a new Administration Building. This space will feature state-of-the-art classrooms, our library, studios for our virtual learning programs, and staff offices. Much progress has been made in recent weeks on the building, including the installation of the windows and interior staircases. As you are visiting the Gardens in the coming weeks, you’ll see the roofing materials for the building being put into place! We look forward to continuing progress on this new building which will serve as a central hub for staff.
Free, timed Member reservations are required for all Membership levels, except Gardens Premium Members and Innovators, on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays if arriving after 3 pm through October 30.
