Dear Class of 2027 and Transfers,

You've approached Stanford! NSO begins in less than a week! After months of preparing for your arrival, you'll finally be joining us on campus. Welcome to The Farm!
In this final email, you'll get a preview of what to expect next week at NSO. But first, some important reminders and updates:
  • University Core Values Required Trainings: Complete online modules on university core values by September 18.
  • Cardinal Care Acknowledgment/Waiver: The deadline to acknowledge or waive Cardinal Care for 2023-24 is September 15. If you submit a waiver request by Sept 15, you'll meet the deadline, even if the response is sent after this date.

Move-In Day Instructions

New Student Move-In Day is Tuesday, September 19

Check in at your Housing Service Center between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Try to arrive by 12:00 p.m. so that you can enjoy the day's welcome events. We anticipate a very busy morning - thank you in advance for your patience.
All new students must be checked in by 5:00 p.m. Required NSO programs begin that evening.
(For those arriving to campus early, review the specific instructions provided by your pre-orientation program.)

Getting to Campus

Review directions to campus and transportation information from nearby airports (SFO, SJC, OAK). Once on campus, navigate to your Housing Service Center’s Check-In Location. Download the Stanford Mobile app and use the “Map” feature or find your residence on this 2023 NSO Move-In Map.

Checking In

Go to your Housing Service Center’s Check-In Location to pick up your room key and SUID card. Be ready to show a government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport. If you have already been issued a SUID card, be sure to bring it, as a new card will not be printed.

Moving In

After checking in, walk to your dorm and locate your room. Your House Leadership Team will greet you and give you your NSO packet with your nametag, schedule, map, and more*. Please wear your nametag for the duration of NSO. If comfortable, you can write your pronouns on it.
If you come in a car, bring your car and unload to the nearest curb. Move-In Day Volunteers will be on hand to assist you. After unloading, cars should be parked in the Galvez Parking Lot for free all-day parking.
*Transfers: Pick up your NSO Packet from Kimball Hall on this day, between 8am-12pm.

NSO Schedule

The 2023 NSO Schedule is now online and in Canvas! You'll receive a printed copy in your NSO packet.
New Student Orientation (NSO) begins on September 19 with welcome events and the Opening Convocation Ceremony from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. in Frost Amphitheater. If you have family accompanying you, please enjoy the day on campus with them, including lunch in the dining hall. Plan to say your goodbyes following Convocation so that you can have dinner with your dorm and attend the required First Housing Meeting. Convocation will be livestreamed for families not joining us on campus.
*Note for families: Tickets for Dinner with the Provost have sold out and we are at capacity in the venue. Family members should email approaching@stanford.edu to join the waitlist, if desired.
Look through the schedule to see what you can expect for the week of NSO. There will be a mix of required programs, beloved traditions, and many social activities to meet the community. We'll also be taking a class photo at the Oval, where we'll be handing out class t-shirts and more! You should participate fully in NSO and must attend all of the required programs. Please do not make any plans to leave campus during NSO.
Transfers: Transfers will experience NSO together as cohort with the Kimball RAs. All transfers will pick up their NSO packets at Kimball on September 19 and meet in Kimball Hall for residence-based NSO programs.
Community Welcomes and NSO Events: We sent Community Welcome Emails last week - you can read all of the Welcome notes from our community centers, programs, and offices in Canvas. These communities will be hosting NSO events that are open to all. Please join us!
NSO Disability Accommodations: If you or guests have accessibility questions or will need accommodations on Setpember 19, please contact the Diversity & Access Office: disability.access@stanford.edu, 650-725-0326. For golf cart assistance during NSO week, please be sure to register with Disability Golf Cart Service.
NSO Event Updates: New events, location changes, and time changes will be updated online and in Canvas.
