Dean's Welcome
Greetings, Hull Alumni and Friends!
As we wrap up the month of September, the fall semester is in full swing and that means a calendar full of events and activities for Hull students, faculty, staff, and our local business community. This edition of Inside Hull brings you closer to what has gone on in Hull this year and prepares you for what is coming as the year progresses.
September kicked off with our Accounting Night, an opportunity for our Hull students and local accounting firms to meet and network. It is a great event for our students’ career development and for our firms to recruit. The event was highlighted by a great speech by recently retired Masters Tournament senior director "Buzzy" Johnson and the annual presentation of the Abram Serotta Award. The theme of student/business interaction continued in September with our first Business Connection with New York Life.
As always, Inside Hull highlights the people of Hull, and this edition is no different. You will learn about some of our outstanding students who are participating in our new Hull Ambassadors program; and meet Mikayla, one of our great student assistants. Gary Dennis, one of our outstanding alumni, has remained connected to Hull through his J-Tank entrepreneurship program which involves five Hull faculty and administrators, including me. This is a great opportunity for Hull to give back to our community.
October is on the horizon, and we will kick it off with one of our centerpiece events, the Russell A. Blanchard Lecture Series in Ethics. Learn more about our Oct. 4 event inside these pages of Inside Hull, and I hope you will join us for this great event. October also brings us Alumni Weekend, and I hope we can welcome many of you back to campus.
I am sorry to close this message with a sad note. On Sept. 4, one of our former deans, Dr. Otha L. Gray, passed away. If it were not for the contributions of Dr. Gray, the Hull College would not be what it is today, and as we reflect on his life, we work to continue to build on his efforts.
Thanks for your support, and Go Jags!
Richard (Rick) M. Franza, Ph.D.
