Learn how to "exercise" these simple rules on Sunday in worship!
Learn how to
Dear St. LUkers,
If you missed Sunday worship you missed God’s mighty word of grace and invitation from both Pastor Jad and Pastor Corey. I would encourage you to check out the website or Facebook to hear both of their sermons because they really helped to further our calling to move into God’s Cul-de-sac and invest our story of grace in other’s lives.
On Sunday, we handed out an educational piece about the upcoming Special Called General Conference of the United Methodist Church. This is an important time in our denomination, and this general conference is the representative delegation who makes decisions for our worldwide UM church. Click here to view how you can respond in the days before, during and after. You will also find an email address to send your thoughts to the Florida delegation before they head to St. Louis. If you have questions about General Conference and how the proceedings may impact St. Luke’s, please click here to email your St. Luke’s lay and staff leaders.
The number one question I get is “what will change?” I don’t know what will change because I don’t know what the Holy Spirit and delegates will decide or not decide but here’s what I can offer… which I believe is even MORE important! What will NOT change. On February 27th, we will continue to be St. Luke’s, living into our mission of Building the Kingdom by Building Disciples, our core values of Christ-centered Acceptance, Hospitality, Community, Discipleship and Service and our unique calling of the 2020+ Vision. We wanted you to see what that looks like and share new things you may not know about in each of our areas of ministry. Watch here each week to learn new ways we Worship, Connect, Care, Grow, Service and Commit as St. Luke’s. This week we’re hearing from Pastor Jad about one of our vital Care Ministry Teams.

News to Know: General Conference 2019

A Special Session of the General Conference of The United Methodist Church will be held February 23-26 in St. Louis. The General Conference is made up of 864 delegates (half lay and half clergy) from around the world. Forty percent of delegates are from outside the United States. The Florida Conference is represented by nine clergy and nine lay delegates.
Please pray for our delegates, as the purpose of this General Conference is to receive and vote on a report from the Commission on a Way Forward along with other legislation. The Commission on a Way Forward was formed by the 2016 General Conference and asked to find a way forward for the church that would move us beyond the current impasse related to human sexuality.
You can watch the Conference live at umc.org/gc2019 and read more at flumc.org/wayforward.
REMINDER: The church campus will be closed on Monday, February 18 in observance of President's Day, and will re-open on February 19 at 9:00 a.m.

Gleaning in Progress

Volunteers of all ages had a successful day of gleaning earlier this month, doubling the amount of citrus picked in 2018. 1,200 pounds of fruit was delivered to Second Harvest Food Bank, and we want to thank everyone who came to help in this effort!
Our next gleaning event is on Saturday, March 9 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., where St. Lukers will join the Society of St. Andrews in packing fresh fruits and vegetables at the Dolphin Resort at Walt Disney World. Volunteers must be 14+, and you can visit st.lukes.org/local to sign up.

I'm a St. Luker Because...

This month we are sharing St. Luke's stories from our very own St. Lukers. Click the button below to read more!

Looking Ahead at St. Luke's
In honor of Black History Month, join the St. Luke’s Inclusivity Committee for a free showing of “Hidden Figures” in the Building C Attic on Friday, February 22 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.! After the movie we’ll spend some time discussing themes and ideas together. Visit the app or st.lukes.org/fridayfilms to RSVP (requested not required), and contact inclusivecommittee@st.lukes.org with questions.

A Time of Prayer and Healing

Following the special session of the UMC General Conference, join your fellow St. Lukers for a time of prayer and healing on Wednesday, February 27 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary to come together as one church. At St. Luke’s everyone matters, so please join us as we pray for our church and the denomination.
