WEAKLEY COUNTY LOCAL FOOD NETWORK
1st Newsletter, June 2016
Thank you for your participation in the Local Foods, Local Places Community Forum Dinner on Monday, March 21, 2016. We had over 80 people attend from Weakley County, the region and bordering states! Thanks to your participation, ideas and enthusiam, exciting developments have occured since that evening. (View photo album)
5 goals and actions were developed on Tuesday, March 22
The day after the forum "Stakeholders" continued the discussion on how to strengthen our local food system, foster local economic development activities, and promote better health outcomes in our area. 
Since March, the Local Food Network Steering Committee has been diligently working on creating 5 reachable goals and actions to strengthen our food system and rural areas.

Local Food Network Community Goals
GOAL 1: Make the Dresden and Martin Farmers Markets destinations for farm businesses, local arts, healthy living, family and visitors.
GOAL 2: Empower and develop local people and organizational capacity to advance local foods, local place-based initiatives.
GOAL 3: Make downtown Dresden and Martin thriving places that support local business growth, local foods and better public health outcomes.
GOAL 4: Grow farming businesses and local food entrepreneurs.
GOAL 5: Provide education and increase awareness of the benefits and opportunities of a strong local food, local placemaking program.

Farmers Market Fresh Program (eat tastey, locally sourced samples of onsite fresh cooked food!):
Saturday, June 18th
Martin Farmers Market will be opening on Saturday, June 4th from 8am - 12 pm and have it's season's kick-off on Saturday, June 11th from 8 AM - 12 PM.
Shop during the week on Mondays and Wednesdays starting at 2 pm.

What do you want to learn?

The Northwest Tennessee Entrepreneur Center (NTEC), a local nonprofit organization in Martin, would like to organize a series of business development programs to help rural entrepreneurs grow their ideas into sustainable businesses.
VOLUNTEER
MHA needs garden volunteeers!
The Martin Housing Authority has two raised-bed garden locations in Martin. These gardens are incorporated in MHA summer camp and after-school programs which serve our area youth. Please contact Robert Nunley Robert@martinhousing.org to volunteer or  for more information.
