2020 Basser Global Prize Awarded to Bella Kaufman, MD

We’re honored to award the 2020 Basser Global Prize to Bella Kaufman, MD, of Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer in Israel. Dr. Kaufman has had a crucial role in the development of PARP inhibitors for the treatment of BRCA-related cancers.
She is a leading clinician and breast cancer researcher in the field of BRCA genetics, and has been an investigator on many important clinical trials.

BRCA and Men's Health


While BRCA mutations are often associated with hereditary cancers that impact women, such as breast and ovarian cancer, these mutations also affect men and increase their cancer risk. Basser Center Genetic Counselor Jacquelyn Powers, MS, LCGC, discusses BRCA mutations in men and shares helpful information like associated cancer risk and typical screening recommendations. Last month, the Basser Center's Young Leadership Council hosted a panel discussion on racial health disparities, moderated by women's health advocate Alejandra Campoverdi.
