What I did on my summer vacation

An interesting fact about myself is...

If you’re new here, this is The Powder Blue, the weekly student newsletter. Every Thursday we’ll send you (and all the other students) info about how to stay connected on campus, things you need to know, deadlines and events and anything else we like this week. Each issue includes student contributions and ideas. 💕 And don’t forget to follow Ole Miss Student Services on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook.

First things first

Delta came at us fast, so let’s make sure we’re all on the same page before we start classes.

Masks: You have to wear them in public indoor places on campus so that we’re not all swapping Delta.
Get vaccinated: Do it for the Rebs! Free first doses of Pfizer will be available Monday, Aug. 23 and Wednesday, Aug. 25 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Johnson Commons. You can also go to the University Health Center Pharmacy or off-campus vaccination.
Get Ole Miss gear at the campus vaccination events while supplies last or bring in your vaccination card for swag if you got vaccinated somewhere else. Second doses will be scheduled while getting the first dose. More info here.
Events: They’re happening! Events should be registered in The ForUM and follow these guidelines.
More info about other campus protocols is here. TL;DR: masks are required so we can have in-person classes, get vaccinated so you don’t get sick and miss class and call Student Health at 662-915-7274 for any health questions at all.

I’m new here

Student moving in with thumbs up
Welcome to Ole Miss, freshmen and transfer students! There’s probably a lot you feel like you have to learn before school starts, but you’ll pick it up quick. Here are some tips and links to get you started:
  • Before classes start, log into Ole Miss Blackboard with your Ole Miss webID and password. Check “Announcements” and click around to learn how to use it.
  • You probably know about the meal plan and Chick-fil-A, but there’s lots of other great places to eat on campus, so you’ll want to keep up with their hours here and check the Starbucks line before heading out.
  • Learn the bus routes if you need them (make sure to wear a mask on the buses).
  • Get in touch with the Counseling Center if you think you may want to talk to someone this semester.
  • If you’re interested: student football tickets Hotty Toddy!
  • Be kind to everyone you meet. ⭐
If there’s ever anything you can’t figure out, ask someone! Someone in class, your CA, your professor, someone on campus who looks helpful. We’re very nice here, and starting a new school is A LOT. And if you really can’t find anyone, email UMatter at umatter@olemiss.edu. UMatter exists to help students with all types of hard situations, and they’ll get you where you need to be.

😍 Upperclassmen 😍: what advice would you give a new student during their first month at Ole Miss? Tell them here.

Walk with a Rebel

The Associated Student Body (ASB) is hosting “Walk With A Rebel” on Aug. 24-26 that matches first-year students with campus student leaders to walk around campus together, get to know more students and ask questions about Ole Miss life. Sign up here to meet a campus leader or to walk with a new student.

We stay winning

Congratulations to Ole Miss alums Brittney Reese (women’s long jump) and Raven Saunders (women’s shot put) who both won silver medals at the Tokyo Olympics! And congrats to all Ole Miss alums who qualified. 🏅

Ole Miss Dining

The semester meal plan begins on Friday, Aug. 20, but dining facility hours will vary until then. See here for pre-semester hours and dining locations and menus. Don’t worry, new students will get the hang of swipes, Flex and how to find the Blenz truck soon.
