Every time I think I am going to give up doing art, I find myself starting a new project or take up something I had put aside and getting interested again...

Last year, when it became obvious that the quarantine was going to last awhile, I decided that I wanted to have something to show for all this time at home, so I went back to work on a project that I had abandoned some years ago. I have a wall in my garden that I had mosaic-ed on the front side, but had never finished the back side, so with a lot of accumulated broken dishes and leftover tiles, I was able to complete it. The wall is about 9 ft. long and 3-5 ft. high.

SoCal Winter Greetings to you all,

We are finally ready to have Zoom meetings starting February 6th.  Sorry for such a delay; maybe it's my fault for not pushing this idea months ago.  Like many, I was thrown off my feet most of 2020.  The membership count is down about a dozen, but I trust this number will bounce up.  If you know of any members who haven’t been able to pay dues, encourage them to contact our Treasurer, Kathleen Swaydan.

On our website, Artists' Profiles is now called GALLERY.  Keep your photos and bio updated.  Use Member News (from the Members Only side of website) to show off your current works of art.  Mims Ellis will publish these announcements through email.

During the shutdown, we have become accustomed to using Smartsheets and ISSUU for our virtual exhibits.  The Exhibitions Committee has enrolled PSA in BLURB, where we can purchase copies of exhibition catalogs.  During the past year, new volunteers have stepped up to help our ongoing objectives.  We have received generous grants from the City of Pasadena, Pasadena Arts League, and the Jeanne Ward Foundation.

The Programs Committee, with the help of Rhonda Raulston, our Secretary, will be organizing Zoom programs for your interest.  If you have ideas for, skills/ interest for Artist Education Programs, please let it be known.

Whenever we can resume regular meetings, we hope to return to the Blinn House, hosted by the new owner, Pasadena Heritage Foundation.  PSA will continue planning virtual exhibitions as long as needed.

THANK YOU ALL for your continued support to PSA, almost 96 years old.

Take care of yourself and those you love.  Enjoy your studio practice.

Exhibition News

Several exhibitions are in the planning stages, including the 96th Annual, an Artist’s Choice exhibition, a media-specific exhibition, the New Members Showcase and others.  A friendly reminder:  All exhibition take-ins will be online using Smartsheets for the foreseeable future. The committee is aware that some members have experienced difficulties using Smartsheets and we apologize for that.  It may be easier to use a tablet, laptop or desktop computer in place of a smartphone due to the larger screen size, making it easier to read and drop images in the image box.  Also, you might consider asking for assistance by sending an email with your concerns to Leah Knecht or Rhonda Raulston.  They may be able to help.

All exhibitions will be presented online; some may have a printed catalog available, and a select few will have traditional gallery installations.  As soon as exhibitions have been approved by the Board, announcements will be forthcoming.

If you are interested in obtaining a printed catalog for the two most recent exhibitions, here are the links:

95th Annual:  https://www.blurb.com/b/10395456-pasadena-society-of-artists-95th-annual-juried-ex

A note about the Aqua Activated catalog:  Due to technical issues with the reproduction of the catalog pages (not including the cover), the catalog may not be available for the next few weeks.  When these issues are resolved everyone will be notified.

The Exhibition Committee is looking forward to seeing everyone at the February 6 PSA Zoom General Meeting.  In the meantime, it’s back to the studio to work on art.
