Undergraduate Research & Fellowships

2024-2025 Fulbright U.S. Student Program application opens in April!

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is the largest U.S. exchange program offering opportunities to study, research, or teach internationally. The program facilitates cultural exchange and promotes mutual understanding for an increasingly globalized society. The 2024-2025 cycle opens this month. For those interested, our office will host advising sessions, workshops, and resources to help develop a competitive application. To start the conversation about applying to a Fulbright, submit an interest form and a URF staff member will reach out to you about next steps.

Creating an Effective Research Poster Seminar with Dr. Stormer, April 4

Last call to join Dr. Virginia Stormer, Associate Director for Curriculum Development and Design, as she provides students with an overview of the fundamentals of poster design. Scholars will then work together to apply those fundamentals to sample posters so that they leave the presentation confident in their knowledge of what makes a successful research poster. Register Here.

EURēCA

Mark your calendars! The 27th annual EURēCA event is April 25, 2023 in the Student Union. We welcome the entire campus community to support undergraduate researchers, peruse more than 800 research posters, and ask presenters questions about their work. For more information please visit the EURēCA website.

Request Presentations at your Student Organization

URF is happy to present at student organizations or events! In fact, the best way to promote undergraduate research and scholarship opportunities is through word of mouth. If your organization promotes opportunities and advancement in your field, then we would be honored to present how URF can support student scholars. Request a presentation on our website. (And, no. We can’t do birthday parties).

Research to Resume Seminar with Career Coach Amanda Yother, May 2

If you can do research, then you can probably do just about anything. Don’t believe us? Well, consider attending the Research to Resume seminar presented by UT’s Center for Career Development’s Amanda Yother, where she will explain how to translate the skills acquired through undergraduate research to resumes, graduate school, fellowship applications, and other academic endeavors. Register here.

Graduation Recognition Workshops

The University of Tennessee would like to recognize students who participate in undergraduate research and fellowships programs/experiences. Through the Office of Undergraduate Research and Fellowships, students may apply to receive a cord or the cord & Medallion to be worn during graduation. If you have any questions about your application or criteria, please feel free to attend a Graduation Recognition Workshop!

Maximize your Undergraduate Experience with Fellowships Advising

Nationally competitive fellowships and scholarships support a wide range of activities that can orient or enhance your academic experience and professional career. Fellowships support study abroad, advancing work into the policy space, or deepening your research projects. Don’t think you’re fellowship material? We respectfully disagree. There is no ideal or typical candidate, and review committees seek interesting applicants and consider the “whole person.” If you haven’t considered how fellowships may impact your life, start by searching URF’s list of scholarship and fellowships and request a fellowships advising appointment.

URF Travel Grants for Conferences

Apply for an URF Travel Grant. Travel Grants support undergraduate researchers who have been accepted to present their research or creative work at a non-UT sponsored conference or event. The grants vary by location: $300 for in-state conferences, $500 for national conferences, $800 for international conferences, and $100 for virtual conference registration. See application details on our website.
