BISD
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Sakai Families,

Today is Day 21 of our 30 Days of Kindness. Today, students may need your help as they are challenged to give someone a call and tell them why their life is better because of that person. Our Kindness Challenge is an aspect of our Social Emotional Learning curriculum CharacterStrong, that we are piloting. CharacterStrong founder Houston Craft writes in his book Deep Kindness, “Deep Kindness requires something more than politeness or even an honest desire to help-it requires careful self-reflection, profound courage, a willingness to be humbled, and hard-earned social and emotional skills.” He notes that to really instill deep kindness in kids, we need to create intentional opportunities for them to practice this, as we would any skill.

Speaking of kindness, the wonderful students at Bainbridge Island High School have created a district-wide spirit week, with dress and kindness themes each day next week. Please see the themes below. We are so excited to participate! If your student brings in any of the items for Helpline House, they can drop them off in the office.

Finally, we appreciate your support during our book fair. I want to extend a huge thank you to all our volunteers. We could not have done it without you!

Have a wonderful week, Sakai!

LIBRARY NEWS
Greetings from Sakai Library...

THANK YOU to the Sakai Community and the Sakai PTO for supporting our Scholastic Book Fair fundraiser. The library added new titles from the book fair to the collection at a significant discount and also received a percentage of the sales. The funds help us add new titles throughout the year to keep our readers engaged and replace the well-loved titles that fall apart from so much reading...a good problem to have. Thank you so much for helping us to keep them reading!

For those that created a Scholastic eWallet and have remaining funds, here is a link to eWallet FAQs.
