MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Sakai Families,

I have received many messages of gratitude for our teachers over this past week, and I couldn't agree with them more. I am also so impressed with our staff’s caring and can-do attitude. This has been on full display today as we welcomed students back to in-person learning for the first time since March.

Today has come with a lot of emotions for our community. As an educator, I know there is some anxiety around how everything will go. It feels like another first day of the year. And, since none of us have been to school in a Hybrid Learning Model before, in some ways it feels like our first day in our first year of teaching. However, I also know that our staff at Sakai is very excited to greet our students. It will be so wonderful to have our student body back on campus! We will make this second semester an engaging and memorable one for reasons other than just new health guidelines and school protocols. As a father, I can also relate to the tension of emotions you may be feeling. Today I am sending off a Kindergartener for her first day of in-person learning. Although it isn’t exactly how I envisioned it, understanding all that Bainbridge Island School District has done to ensure the safety of our kids, I know she will be well cared for.

We have been working so hard since June to ensure a safe and healthy return to school. We are confident in our plans, but we also know there will be some adjustments here and there as we get going. For instance, we know we need to try to make some changes to help the flow of pick up traffic. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we get through these first few weeks.

Here’s to a wonderful start to the semester!
