FieldTurf to be installed for Lacrosse and Soccer
Whitman College intercollegiate soccer and lacrosse teams will train and compete year-round on a new FieldTurf synthetic field starting in the fall 2023 season. Fully funded by gifts, the facility will be named James K. Hayner Field in honor of the longtime college trustee and Walla Walla leader.
Biology Professor Receives 2022 Lynwood W. Swanson Scientific Research Award
The M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust has awarded herpetologist and Professor of Biology Kate Jackson the Lynwood W. Swanson Scientific Research Award for 2022.
Whitman recognizes the outstanding work of each member of the faculty–dedicated teacher-scholars who are experts in their fields. This academic year, a handful of Whitman faculty members received promotions that reflect their contributions to their departments and the Whitman College community.

Michelle Ferenz is winningest women's basketball coach in Northwest Conference
After thorough research by the Northwest Conference and Whitman Athletics, the conference has acknowledged our very own Michelle Ferenz as the winningest women’s basketball coach in Northwest Conference history! Michelle, already the winningest basketball coach at the College, is one of the finest coaches in the nation and has been a fixture at the College in her 20-plus years of coaching.

The Division of Diversity and Inclusion has been actively contributing to institutional efforts to advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism at the college during the Fall semester. Highlights include:
• Launched the Queer Ally Coalition workshop series. • Together with Human Resources, facilitated training for Equity in the Hiring Process. • Together with Academic Affairs, organized a reception for Whitman Faculty of Color. • Coordinated International Student Orientation. • Organized events for Hispanic Heritage Month. • Hosted Third Space events on Disability Justice and Hip Hop Scholarship. • Opened the new All Faiths Room in Reid Campus Center.
