   MASCOT FINALIST
In 1922, students chose the eagle as the official North Texas mascot. Students selected the eagle for its keen eye, beauty, speed, endurance, and its independent and fierce spirit. In the spring of 1924, approval by the U.S. Copyright Office solidified  the mascot’s use. In last week’s issue we asked: What were the other three finalists for the North Texas mascot? The correct answer is the hawk, dragon and lion. It was a close race back in 1924 — the eagle only had 17 more votes than the runner up, the dragon.
