Approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine in Saudia Arabia
Register your vaccination interest today through the Sehhaty app
Saudi Arabia has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for use and launched the nationwide vaccination campaign on Friday, December 18, 2020. Everyone in the KAUST community age 16 and over is strongly encouraged to register for the free COVID-19 vaccine through the Sehhaty app (Android / iOS) from the Ministry of Health. Access to vaccinations is based on a prioritization system built on a number of factors, including age and health conditions.
Where will the vaccine be administrated
The Jeddah regional vaccination center at the King Abdulaziz International Airport South Terminal was recently constructed as one 3 primary vaccination centers in Saudi Arabia. The vaccination center is actively vaccinating Saudi Nationals and expatriates. The Ministry of Health is looking at other population centers to expand the number of locations, but we do not foresee KAUST being a site in the near term.
Our President sets the trend
KAUST President Tony Chan successfully received his first of two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine yesterday, Thursday, December 31, 2020, and he had a good experience to share. He registered interest in receiving the vaccine himself using the Sehhaty app in his personal capacity and received an appointment notification at the Jeddah regional vaccination center with his second dose scheduled for three weeks later. He indicated the app was easy to use and the setup at the vaccination center was smooth and professional.
