IUP Values Me
Kiara is pursuing an undergraduate degree in marketing and will graduate this May. She is in the Cook Honors College and works in the Office of International Education. Through the OIE, Kiara serves as a conversation partner and SkillZone tutor for our exchange students. She is a member of multiple student organizations, including Women in Progress, Phi Gamma Nu, Association of Korean Cultural Interests (AKI), and the Japanese Student Organization (JAPASO). This year, Kiara serves as president for both AKI and JAPASO and is leading efforts to plan multicultural events for the entire IUP community. We thank you, Kiara!
Sibyl is a faculty member in the Department of Counseling, where much of her teaching, scholarship, and service contributes to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts for students and community members. She is a member of the College of Education and Communications Diversity and Inclusion Standing Committee (DISC). Sibyl is co-advisor to the Counselors for Social Justice (CSJ) student organization, which has a national mission that “acknowledges the systemic barriers within our society and profession that impact clients, students, counselors, schools, families, and communities.” She is codirector of the Frederick Douglass Institute for Intercultural Research at IUP, working with undergraduate and graduate students in marginalized populations to strengthen their scholastic skills. Sibyl collaborates with Ruling Our Experiences (ROX), a national organization that provides innovative evidence-based programming, large-scale national research on girls’ issues, and training and professional development to educators across the country. In this role, she assists with diversity-related national research and training on issues impacting girls. We thank you, Sibyl!
A note about IUP Values Me: Each week, we will highlight one student and one staff member to “shine a spotlight” on their great work assisting our campus community with diversity, equity, and inclusion and/or civil rights awareness. If you have a suggestion for an IUP community member to feature in this section, please email social-equity@iup.edu.
