With the recent earthquake in Turkey and Syria; and the shooting at MSU we thought we would pass along some thoughts about teaching in a time of crisis
ZAP is a participatory project that highlights the collaborative work of faculty and students at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. The Zine publishes a wide variety of content produced by faculty, staff, and students, prioritizing collaborations between them. This includes, but is not limited to: academic papers, comics, creative writing, essays, infographics, and op eds.
Call for Submissions is now open through Monday, March 13th. For more details visit the full call on the ZAP website.
ChatGPT
And Other Generative AI Concerns
The situation around ChatGPT and other generative tools continues to grow and evolve daily. We in the Hub have created a resource document outlining the situation with some resources and links. We, along with others across campus, continue to monitor developments to support you and your students.
The Hub for Teaching and Learning can help with strategies to encourage a culture of Academic Integrity such as engaging students in meaningful work that matters to them. Consider signing up for an appointment with the first available instructional designer.
Now is the Time for Mid-semester Feedback
From the Hub or on your own
Weeks 5 through 7 of the semester are a great time to take a "temperature check" of how the semester is going for the students you have right now. Here are some strategies you might consider:
Want a quick, conversational reminder of how and why to collect feedback? Refresh your memory with our blog post (written by LEO Lecturer Sarah Silverman!)
Looking for an example template to collect your own feedback? Here you go!
The Hub is offering mid-course student feedback sessions for in-person and online classes. After a consultation, an instructional designer will engage directly with your students to collect feedback, without you present. We'll then discuss that feedback individually and help you make a plan for responding to your students.
The HubCap is mostly a recap of the week in all things teaching and learning (though we also include some upcoming events from time to time). These notes share timely teaching tips, recent pedagogical scholarship, teaching events on and off campus, and Hub blog posts. Use this form to unsubscribe.
